Hytale Crafting Guide

Hytale crafting looks simple on the surface. It's not. There's a tier system, workbench requirements, and a right way to do things that saves hours of grinding.

Material Tiers

Each tier gives better stats and durability. Skip a tier and you're wasting time—better tools gather materials faster.

TierMaterialNotes
1WoodStarting gear, breaks quickly
2Stone3x the durability of wood
3CopperFirst metal, needs a furnace
4IronBig stat jump
5ThoriumRequires Tier 2 workbench
6AdamantiteEndgame stuff

Don't rush to skip tiers. A copper pickaxe mines iron faster than a stone one. The progression exists for a reason.

Workbenches

Different items need different stations:

  • Crafting Table — wood and stone gear
  • Furnace — turns ore into ingots
  • Blacksmith's Anvil (Tier 1) — copper and iron equipment
  • Blacksmith's Anvil (Tier 2) — thorium gear
  • Master Forge — adamantite and special recipes

Upgrade your workbench as soon as you have the materials. Waiting just slows everything down.

What Things Actually Cost

A Thorium Sword needs:

  • 3 Thorium Ingots (6 ore)
  • 2 Wood Planks
  • 1 Leather Strip

Now imagine a full armor set. It adds up fast. The Crafting Calculator figures this out so you don't have to.

The Smart Way to Craft

Most people craft one item, realize they're missing something, go gather, come back, repeat. Here's a better approach:

  1. Decide what you're making (sword, armor set, tools)
  2. Calculate total materials needed
  3. Gather everything in one trip
  4. Smelt ores while processing other materials
  5. Craft in batches

This takes about half the time of the usual back-and-forth.

Repair or Make New?

Damaged gear does less damage. But repair costs resources too. Think about:

  • How much durability is left
  • Repair cost vs. new item cost
  • Whether you have spare materials already

The Repair Calculator shows which option costs less.

Quick Tips

  • Keep wood, ingots, and leather near your workbench
  • Smelting 64 ore uses the same fuel as smelting 8 — batch your smelting
  • Higher tier pickaxes mine lower tier ores faster
  • Plan armor and weapon sets together — they share materials
