You just spawned into Hytale. Now what? The first 30 minutes set you up for everything that follows. Get them right and the rest flows naturally.
Minutes 0-5: Grab What's on the Ground
Don't wander off yet. Stick close to spawn and pick up:
- 5-10 sticks lying near trees
- 12-16 wood logs (punch 3-4 trees)
- Any loose stones on the surface
Take a mental note of your surroundings. You'll need to find your way back.
Minutes 5-10: Make Your First Tools
Hit C to open crafting. You need three things:
- Crafting Table (4 wood planks) — opens up more recipes
- Wooden Pickaxe (3 planks + 2 sticks) — for mining stone
- Wooden Axe (3 planks + 2 sticks) — chops wood twice as fast
Not sure how much material you need? The Crafting Calculator does the math for you.
Minutes 10-20: Switch to Stone Tools
Wooden tools break fast. Stone lasts 3x longer and mines quicker. Get:
- 20 cobblestone for a full stone toolkit
- 8 coal if you spot any (torches for later)
Make the Stone Pickaxe first. Everything speeds up after that.
Minutes 20-30: Build Something to Sleep In
Monsters come out at night. They will kill you. Build a shelter:
- 4x4 interior works fine
- Walls from wood or cobblestone
- A door (6 planks) to keep things out
- Crafting Table inside
Ugly is okay. Functional beats pretty right now.
Mistakes I See Beginners Make
- Running too far from spawn without marking the location
- Skipping stone tools because "wood is cheaper" (it's not, your time is wasted)
- Fighting mobs at night with no armor
- Forgetting torches indoors (mobs spawn in the dark)
- Collecting everything instead of what you actually need
After the First 30 Minutes
Once you're set up:
- Dig down for copper and iron ore
- Build some chests for storage
- Check nearby caves for better resources
